Practitioner Spotlight: Carmen Insua
Meet Carmen Insua, one of our Special Yoga Advanced Practitioners.

"I came to London from Spain 23 years ago, and my yoga journey began in 2012 while I was working in a corporate job. I started practising during my lunch breaks and soon began attending evening classes in Kentish Town.
At first, yoga was mainly a physical practice, but over time I discovered how much it could change the way I felt. I became calmer, less worried and more connected to myself. Yoga taught me to slow down, breathe, listen to my body and take care of my wellbeing.
During Covid, I lost my corporate job and began practising even more. It was then that I realised I wanted to share yoga with others and become a teacher. After completing my Teen Yoga and 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, I began volunteering with autistic children and adults. This experience changed my life and inspired me to make yoga accessible to everyone.
I went on to complete my Special Yoga training and became an Advanced Special Yoga Practitioner. Today, I work in schools with mainstream and SEN students, offer one-to-one sessions with autistic children and adults, ADHD and PMLD, and teach yoga to teachers to support their wellbeing. I teach in both English and Spanish.
I have also completed Chair Yoga training with Richard Kravetz and offer sessions for older people, people with reduced mobility, and anyone who may not feel comfortable practising on the floor.
For me, Special Yoga is about seeing the person, listening to their needs and creating a safe and welcoming space where everyone can practise in their own way. Yoga is for everyone and I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to experience it."
