Why Special Yoga?

It's a question I've been asked countless times over the years.

"What makes the Special Yoga methodology different?"

"What makes it so... special?"

My answer has never really changed.

Special Yoga is special because we see the person before we see anything else.

You are special.

Every child is special.

Every adult is special.

Every nervous system has its own story.

And every person deserves practices that honour them exactly as they are.

From the very beginning, my vision was never to teach yoga that people had to fit into. It was to create yoga that fits the person.

Whether someone is sitting on the floor, standing, using a wheelchair, has limited mobility, finds it difficult to concentrate, or experiences the world differently, our methodology adapts to them. No one needs fixing. Not you or the children or adults in your care.  And we connect and explore the practice that will best serve the person you are sharing yoga with.

People often come to yoga because they want to become fitter, more flexible, less stressed, sleep better or feel calmer. Those are all wonderful reasons to begin.

But what keeps people practising is something much deeper.

They begin to feel safe.

They begin to regulate their nervous system.

They begin to breathe differently.

They discover a connection with themselves that perhaps they haven't felt for years.

And when that happens, everything begins to change.

This is the heart of the Special Yoga methodology.

It isn't simply a collection of poses or breathing techniques.

It's a way of meeting another human being with presence, compassion and deep respect.

It is understanding that when someone feels safe, they learn.

When they feel connected, they grow.

When they feel seen, they flourish.

This is why our practitioners make such a profound difference in schools, hospitals, homes, therapy settings and communities around the world.

They don't just teach yoga.

They create spaces where people can reconnect with themselves.

If this resonates with you, we'd love you to join our community of Special Yoga practitioners and experience this approach for yourself.

Because when we change the way we meet people, we change what's possible for them.

And that is what makes Special Yoga so very special.

With love,

Jyoti

When was the last time someone asked how you were?
If you're caring for a child with additional needs, chances are you're used to putting everyone else first.
